Primary Teachers' Summer Course 2026
Dublin Zoo’s DES approved week-long summer course 2026: ‘Cultivating the Next Generation of Conservationists’.
This course aims to provide participants with active engagement in teaching and learning about Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) with an emphasis on conservation education. It provides participants with the skills, knowledge and confidence to teach about nature and conservation in their classrooms. The course will assist teachers in fostering positive connections to nature in their classrooms and motivating their students towards pro-environmental actions.
Topics will be delivered by expert facilitators in our Conservation Education Centre and from our immersive living classroom, the grounds of Dublin Zoo. Teachers participating will have exclusive access to our state-of-the-art teaching spaces as well as the opportunity to explore the zoo after the daily programme.
Note: this course is aimed at those who teach 3rd – 6th class but all teachers are welcome.
We will have three separate weeks available to book. The content will be the same each week, we recommend booking just one week. Please note that your ticket will be valid only for the date you book. We will do our best to accommodate changes to your booking but cannot guarantee a switch will be available. Please note that we cannot offer refunds for cancelled or unused tickets.
Course info:
Week 1: 6th – 10th July – 5 days (20 hours)
Week 2: 13th – 17th July – 5 days (20 hours)
Week 3: 17th – 21st August – 5 days (20 hours)
The course will run from 10am – 3pm each day
Your three EPV days are granted upon completion of the full 5 days of the course. Any deviation from this may result in the loss of some, or all, of your EPV days. They are granted at the sole discretion of Drumcondra Education Centre and all queries about EPV days will need to be sent them directly: [email protected]
Cost: €120 per person 2026 only €60 per person
With support from the Department of Education’s Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) to 2030 initiative, we are delighted to offer a once-off 50% discount for this course.This funding helps us expand access to the programme and support teachers engaging with sustainability education.
Availability is limited, so we encourage interested teachers to book early.
